When any search engines, say, Google crawls yours site, it scans your site depending upon many ranking factors, as per written in its algorithm. Backlink is one of the major factors amongst them. The basic rule is pretty clear – the more backlinks your site has, thehigher it will rank in search results. So to gain higher position in SERP (Search Engine Results Page), you’ve gotta understand what backlink is, how it works & how to get backlinks to your blog, so that you can stand out in this heavy crowd.
So let’s get started.
What is a Backlink?
Backlink as its name suggests itself, is a link thrown back to your blog. Let’s make it simpler. Suppose our friend Harry has a website. Now I asked him to put a link, say techabrel.com/blah-blah, in his site. And also I took him to the local restaurant and fed him tuna-salad to make sure he does so. And when he puts the link in his site, I receive a backlink. Tada.
Why are backlinks so important?
As I said earlier search engines like Google or Bing crawls the web and count the number of backlinks your website has (i.e. how many links are coming to your site). These search engines have a pretty simple brain. They believe that, the more backlinks a site has, the more wealthy content it contains. And the more wealthy content always ranks higher in the search results page. It works something like this. Google crawls the site, it observes the link and thinks –
“Oh look, a backlink to techabrel.com, it must be a very informative and awesome site, let’s rank it higher”.
Hence, to appear in SERP, and therefore receive more organic traffic you have to get backlinks. Obviously there are other factors involved, but hey, this is the easiest explanation for a beginner.
Cool. So are all backlinks good?
Unfortunately, no. Not all backlinks are good. There are some things you must consider before grabbing a backlink.
I. Basically backlinks are of two types, namely – Dofollow and Nofollow. If you’re a coding junky, you might be acknowledged with these terms. And in case you’re not into those cluttering lines of codes, just remember that when Google notices a dofollow link, it visits it and crawls it as well. As a matter of fact Google only considers dofollow links as backlinks. When it finds the property nofollow in a link, it skips it. So you must AVOID nofollow backlinks and go for dofollow ones. To identify whether a link is dofollow or nofollow
II. Another thing you need to look out for is PageRank. It’s kind of ranking measure of a website. Or in a geek’s words, it’s an algorithm to rank a site. And it’s measured in a scale of 0 to 10. The higher its PageRank is, the worthier that site is. And hence the worthier it is to grab a link from. Suppose your site gets a link from www.harvard.edu, your site will automatically go higher in rankings because the site has a PageRank of 8. So always try to get backlinks from higher PageRank.
- Here’s a fun fact: Did you know that PageRank was named after Google’s co-founder Larry Page? Umm, how convenient.
III. Suppose you have a site about how to cook Tuna Fish Cake in various ways. And your friend, Angela has a blog about Stock Exchange stuffs. Now if you ask her to give you a link back in exchange of two pieces of Tuna Fish Cake, she would surely put a link in her blog. But, will this help you rank better in serp? No! All your energy, money and sweat making that Tuna Fish Cake will be wasted. Because, search engines only care if your backlinks are coming from a relevant site. A backlink from a travelling website will value zero for a technology and gadgets website. So make sure that the backlinks you’re getting are coming from a website with the same niche of yours.
IV. Another thing that you should check out while building backlinks is the Alexa rank. The link donator should have an Alexa ranking far less than yours. Yep, you heard it. The less Alexa rank a site has, the better it is.
So this is how you chose which backlinks you should grab, and which you should let go.
Okay, gotcha. But how the heck do I build backlinks?
Million dollar question. Everyone knows backlinks are important, nothing new in that. What we need to know is how to get them. Just hit Google and there are hundreds if not thousand techniques of building backlinks. But only few of them works in the real world. So how to filter out which one works and which doesn’t?
Well, sit back and relax. I’ve sorted out the best ways to get backlinks to your blog. Did I mention that it’s gonna be as super-easy as crafting your first blog post? So let the brainstorming begin.
1. Creating Awesome Content:
This is the most original process of link building. Go craft an epic post, say, a 1700 words article on PHP basics. If the post is superclass, it will naturally get links from various other sites. Suppose Katy is writing an article on ‘How to connect a PHP page to database’. If she hasn’t previously written about PHP basics on her site, she would surely like to link back to a post on PHP basicsfrom any other source. So if she finds your blog post, she’ll surely link to your post. And in case she doesn’t, you have to find her and suggest that “you have an article on xyz topic that she might be interested to check out and link back in her article, if possible”.
2. Submit Guest Posts to Other Blogs:
Another awesome way to gain Do-follow backlinks is by guest posting. Thousands of blogs out there accept guest posts. List a few of them. Now contact one of them saying that you wanna publish a guest post in their blog. Most of the blogs provide you 1 to 2 do-follow backlinks for writing a 700 word article. But make sure to ask them and format your article as per as their instruction.
- Awesome Fact: Did you know that there’s a super-fantastic blog called Techabrel.com and it accepts guest posts?
3. Make use of sites like Yahoo Answers:
There are millions of people looking for solutions in sites like Yahoo Answers, Quora etc. Register there and start finding problems which you’ve already discussed in your blog or website. Now answer them mentioning the solution and refer your blog post as source.
Make sure you DO NO SPAM those sites. Always keep in mind that these websites are created to help people, not for building backlinks. So go out there and help people selflessly.
4. Comment on blogs:
Commenting on blogs can get you some handy backlinks. The links won’t worth a lot, but yeah, it can surely help you to increase your ranking in SERP’s. To do so, find blogs which give you do-follow backlinks when you comment on their articles. While commenting make sure to read the whole article and craft a meaningful & valuable comment. If in an article about NASA’s new alien searching project, you comment about the beautiful weather of Florida, your comment will hardly get approved. So take care of what you write.
5. Exploit the Social Media:
Social Media is not only the best place to promote yourself, but it also gives you a platform to showcase your portfolio. No matter what site it is, be that Facebook or Twitter or Linkedin, you get a space in your profile, where you can put a link to your website. And all of these sites have great Page Ranks and amazing domain authority. So exploit these social profiles.
Here’s a list of social sites that you can utilize to get backlinks:
This is by far the easiest way to build backlinks. So be sure you register in all the places and put a link in your profile page. But do not spam these sites by posting your links everywhere and just blowing up the taste. Keep it low.
6. Broken Link Building:
Look out for the websites which were shutdown recently. Now check out their incoming links by any backlink checker tools like ahrefsor any other site explorer. Then go to those sites and find a way to contact the authority to inform them about the broken link and ask them to replace the link with yours instead. With this technique, if you’re lucky enough, you may even get some .edu backlinks as well.
7. Blogging Comunities:
There are plenty of blogging community sites to promote your blog post for free! So it’s a great opportunity to grab some good backlinks on the go.
Blogengage, BizSugar, DoSplash, Kingged, Indiblogger etc. are a few of the most popular blogging communities.
8. Review Popular Products:
Write reviews of top products belonging to your own niche and ask them to add a link to that post in their official website. While not all the companies will respond you, some might do. So it’s a great way to get backlinks from higher authority sites.
9. Create Infographics:
A picture is worth a thousand words. An infrographic is often full of information and is shared a lot. So create an infographic, put it on your own post. And mention that this infographic is reusable with credit. In the credit put your blog’s link. This will bring you some good amount of backlinks.
On the other hand, rather than putting it in autopilot mode, you can change the gears yourself too. Find a blog post that relate to your inforgraphic and contact the author asking him or her to put your infographic in that blog post. Sites like infogr.am, piktochartlets you create your own infographics for free.
You can also do the same for any images or videos that relate to a blog post in a popular website or blog.
Things to Avoid:
- Buying Backlinks. Never ever buy backlinks from sites like Fiverr or anywhere. Google hates it.
- Link exchange. Don’t exchange links with your friends or anyone. This will have a negative effect on your search ranking. And also avoid getting links through blogrolls. That thing doesn’t work anymore.
- Spamming. Do not spam by over-commenting on a blog or posting too much links on social media or by any means. Everyone hates it.
- Building low quality links. Try to avoid links having lower pr and higher alexa rank than you.
- Irrelevant links. As I said earlier, it’s useless to get links from a website that doesn’t belong to your niche. Complete waste of time.
Here is a method to get some one-way backlinks that works pretty well. You need to get a secondary site. Set up something simple and contact other webmasters to trade links (reciprocal links). It can be from a different niche. Put all the links ********, it doesn 't matter.
After a few reciprocal links (10~30) we need to redirect our secondary site to our main site. We will use a 301 redirect. But we will only redirect search engines, not normal users. This way you can continue with the reciprocal links and the other webmasters will not remove the backlinks.
Use this code on the top of the PHP file(s) to redirect all the backlinks to your main site (don 't forget to change your link):if (preg_match("#(google|slurp@inktomi|yahoo! slurp|msnbot)#si", $_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'])) {
header("HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently");
header("Location: http://www.your-main-site.com/");
exit;
}
Now you will have one-way backlinks to your main site. Google will redirect the link juice to the main site and will not crawl the backlinks of the other webmasters on the secondary site.
Some notes:
- you can use a better script to do that.
- I believe that the secondary site will have the same pagerank after the redirection (or the actualization of pagerank).
- It 's easier to trade links on niches like games, porno etc. Keep that in mind, your goal is to trade many links.
- you can redirect before the first backlinks, but I think this works better this way

This Post is for following users:
- You got CloudFlare captcha while visiting some websites
- Software like Team viewer blocks your IP
- Your Facebook accounts are banning too frequently
- Google shows captcha challenge when to try to search on Google.
I usually end up in blacklisting my IP very often. Becuase I work with much automated software available on the web on my PC. Many recommend using Virtual Machine while testing new software or cracks on your PC. But I hate working in a lagging environment and end up in blacklisted IP. You can check your IP address is banned by checking with your IP on Whatismy IP blacklist checker. Most of the websites and services using Spamhaus database to find blacklisted IP addresses.
The Spamhaus.org is an international nonprofit organization whose mission is to track the Internet’s spam operations and sources, to provide dependable realtime anti-spam protection for Internet networks. First you need to know how your IP is blacklisted; it’s Becuase you probably installed some malware software in your windows. So before requesting to unblock your IP address, you need to remove malware from your PC. To make things easier open control panel and navigate to ‘Uninstall or change program’. Sort software by installed date by clicking on ‘Installed On’ tab.

Now you know which software you installed most recently. Just look for suspicious programs and uninstall it from your computer. I use Revo Uninstaller to uninstall software’s because it have built in option to delete all program files and registry keys when we uninstall. Here’s the checklist before requesting to unblock IP address in Spamhaus.
- Make sure that email scanning enabled on your anti-virus program. If you are using Kaspersky Internet security, ensure that you allowed Mail anti-virus and Antispam and slide security to Maximum.
- Uninstalled all suspicious software from your system and run a full system anti-virus scan.
- Download Norton Power Eraser and run the scan. It will remove all bad Softwares from system. But before running the scan make sure that you create a system restore point.
After completing all above steps, you can request to remove your IP from blacklist using below links.
Your IP address will remove from blacklist within 24 hours after sending the request. So after that you can visit the websites without captcha checks.

My Proven Technique for Earning Authoritative Backlinks
A major part of earning links to your site and your posts is having
that pitch perfect content that is an undeniable asset to anyone who
reads it. That’s only a piece of the puzzle though, you need to bring
the links to you.
Today we’ll covering one of the most powerful methods for earning backlinks without guest posting: The Skyscraper Technique.
Creating phenomenal content is one of the key ingredients in the
recipe for success, but it will drown in the sea of the internet without
a little survival kit known as promotion. Brian Dean over at Backlinko
swears by this this technique and he has the case studies to prove it.
By utilizing the Skyscraper technique, Brian was able to generate a
boat load of quality and relevant links to that specific page. As an
added bonus, he was able to increase Backlinko’s organic traffic by
two-fold in 14 days. Yes, that’s just two weeks.
So, let’s make it work for you, shall we?
Step One: Find Content That is Getting Links
Human beings are obsessed with being the best. It’s a natural and
competitive drive that pushes us to top everything. This technique is
meant to help you find the tallest skyscraper in your niche and do some
renovations of your own to beat it.
The term “Linkable Asset” is perfect here. You need a page with so
much to offer that people will have be scrambling over their keyboards
linking to it. Remember, it has to be valuable and useful.
To make sure you’re on the right track, you need to find content that’s already working. Here are some ways to make that happen:
Open Site Explorer
Consider your niche, what topics you work in and what people want
from you. Do a quick Google search for other sites that exist in that
same sphere. Take the top three results and enter the URL into this tool.
Once you’ve received results, select “Top Pages” from the left side
of the page. You will then see a set of results that looks like this:
We’re looking for pages with a high number of linking root domains.
These pages are getting backlinks like it’s nothing. Topics and
resources like these are going to be the target of your own pursuits.
Keyword.io
This is one of my favourite tools for doing keyword research and best of all is that it’s free! Once you make an account, ultimate power is at your fingertips.
Go ahead and search a keyword related to your niche and you’ll find just about everything you could want:
- Autocomplete suggestions
- Relevant pages
- Top keywords
- Term statistics
All of these things can point you to top ranking competitors and
concepts, which you can then plug into the first tool to narrow down
those results into specific pages. I love it when a plan comes together.
Step Two: Take the Concept, Create Something Better
Step two is easier said than done, but there are actually a number of
different ways to improve upon something. Here are some ways to make it
happen:
Increase the Length (More is Better)
Let’s say you’ve found a list of the “Top 50 Blog Post Ideas” and
you’re thinking, wow, I could think of a hundred of them, no problem!
That’s the answer then, write a piece that surpasses the one you found.
Increasing the length of an article is sometimes all that’s needed to
make it fresh and new again. Adding a few more words won’t do the trick
though, you need to really raise the bar. Or you know, you could try doing what I did…
…Yeah. It’s not easy blowing the competition out of the water, but
doing so will place the limelight where it belongs; on you! You can also
use a similar list length, but add details and additional information
to each tip.
We’ve all seen those lists with a bunch of bullet points and nothing
to elaborate. You can be the one to do it again and do it better.
Make Something Relevant Again
Not every single piece of content is evergreen. Sometimes you need to
spruce things up and put on a fresh coat of paint. If you come across a
popular topic that’s grown stale, write and newer and more up-to-date
version of it.
Depending on your topic or niche, there are probably a number of
article concepts that age with time. Look among your competitors for
articles like these that have recently seen new updates and write your
own modernized version.
Make Your Page Visually Appealing
Your information can be top-notch quality, but if the page you place it on looks anything like this one…
You’re going to have a serious problem. This is obviously an
exaggeration, but there are plenty of good articles out there that could
be easily doubled in quality with a better visual design. Improve the
layout and design with these helpful tips:
- Break up paragraphs (2-3 lines max)
- Use bullet points and numbered lists (easier to read)
- Pictures are a great way to keep the visual spice high
- Use a simple and easily readable color scheme
- Make sure the page is mobile-responsive (easy to read on various devices)
Step Three: Reach Out and Promote Your New Content
The final step is the icing on the cake, the condiment on the
sandwich and the final piece of the puzzle. You need to make sure this
beautiful work you’ve done gets seen by the right people. You need to
use an email template to showcase your content to influencers.
Finding the right people to contact involves looking for three specific things:
- A website within your chosen topic or niche.
- Someone who would be interested in your topic.
- A website that has already made links to similar content
- Finding These Contacts
You can download a spreadsheet of all the backlinks to the article
that inspired your piece of content using the aforementioned Open Site
Explorer, or Ahrefs which is a similar tool. Once you’ve pulled up the results, look for an export options like this one:
Choose the option to download a CSV file as that will create a
spreadsheet for you to use and edit. Remove any odd pages like forums,
directories and other places that wouldn’t make sense to contact for
this purpose.
Once you’ve created your list, visit those websites and compile their
email contact information. This is going to be your master list.
Create an Email Template to Send
You want your email to be short and sweet. Straight to the point,
just like your article, is the best method. Here is a great example you
can feel free to use:
Unlock The Email Template Now

Your responses may vary, but keep in mind that a few high quality
links are more valuable than a bunch of low quality ones. Don’t be
discouraged if you only get a few, these things take time.
The Value in Guest Blogging (And How to Find The Best Ones)
Another way to guarantee backlinks to your website is by writing
guest posts for other blogs. Many popular blogs offer guidelines for
other writers to submit their own posts and make a small mention of
their own blog for backlinking purposes.
It’s tempting to simply find a blog with a high Domain Authority and
PageRank, but this isn’t always the indicator of a great guest post
opportunity.
As Matthew Barby at Moz states in one of his blog posts: “The link must have a genuine potential to generate traffic back to the blog.”
In that same post, Matt (great name by the way) talks about looking
for blogs with a lot of comments and reader engagement. A lower site in
the PA/DA department with a lot of shares and comments is more lucrative
for guest posts opportunities and payout in the form of traffic.
The idea is to really dig deep into these blogs and gather data for
continued backlinking and long-term relationships with the blog owners.
It’s quite the task, which is why outsourcing the research is becoming
more and more viable.
With websites like Odesk and Elance
offering plenty of talent for such tasks, all you need to do is pay a
small fee and let someone else do the research for you. That way your
hands are free to work on other things, like the Skyscraper Technique.
Put together a list of things you want the freelancer to find for you
and place in a spreadsheet. The cost of this research will most likely
be less than $40 and you’ll have a long-term resource for finding guest
post and backlinking opportunities.
Tell them to look for blogs in your niche and provide criteria like these:
- The website URL
- The name of the blog
- Contact information (name and email, contact page URL)
- Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn profile URLs
- A title and URL for the most recent post on the blog
With this information, you can find the ideal blogs to write guest
posts for. Keep their guidelines in mind as you write and remember to
place a link to your homepage or a relevant post on your own blog for
that sweet backlink.
Provided you create a high-quality guest post on a blog with a lot of
reader engagement, you’ll find yourself getting plenty of traffic from
these backlinks.
Wrapping it Up
Backlinks are the foundation of any good website. Think of them like
personal letters of recommendation from some of the best people in your
niche. They can be built with methods like the Skyscraper Technique and
they can be earned through guest blogging.
Remember to use all of the blogging tools are your disposal to
maximize your research and target the right topics and blogs. Other than
that, keep doing what you do best: crafting high quality content.
